I specialize in working with couples. My approach with couples is fair, kind
and flexible. Often couples that come to me for therapy have found themselves locked into a pattern of relating that
leads them to repeat the same problems over and over.
Without realizing it, we all can bring problematic beliefs,
expectations and behavior patterns to our adult relationships. By acting as a facilitator to help clarify what each person
means and how it may differ from what his or her partner hears, I help couples understand their conflicts and communicate
more effectively with each other.
By establishing a safe environment for couples, I help them
address the worries that may have created distance in their relationship and interfered with their feelings of closeness and
intimacy. Through this process, people learn to listen more openly to each other, ask more directly for what they want,
and interact more effectively in their relationships.
I work with couples to address a variety of goals
or challenges, some of which might include:
. Improving communication
.
Establishing a strong and loving relationship
. Mistrust
. Frequent
fighting and arguing
. Parenting
. Aftermath of affairs
. Managing a separation or divorce
, Sexual problems
. Pre-marital
counseling
. Negotiating new life circumstances, such as marriage, childbirth, fertility issues, "empty
nest," blended families, major financial changes.
This list is by no means exhaustive. I encourage you
to give me a call to discuss your particular interest in and goals for couples therapy or consultation. I am always happy
to offer referrals for other resources if we should determine that I am not the person best suited to help you with your particular
situation.
